Cotton Bandanas
Every bandana features an original hand-drawn pattern by our founder Lindsey Fout. We make each bandana from scratch using high-quality and sustainable fabrics. We work in small batches to cut, sew, custom dye, and screen-print each piece!
About the COTTON BANDANAS: We're now using a very soft cotton voile with full saturation printing, which shows on both sides! This cotton is a tad lighter but still strong due to a mercerizing process that strengthens the fibers and makes them more absorbent. Organic cotton is grown free from pesticides and uses less water than conventional cotton. GOTS is the global leader in organic standards. Its certifications cover the growing process and supply chain, including social and labor criteria. GOTS Certified means doing better for the earth, workers, and consumers. This pattern was inspired by the center of giant sunflowers that peep over my garden fence in later September. Soft organic cotton dyed a deep burnt red and ethically hand-made in India. Made with high quality cotton voile.

About the Cotton Fabric
Suvin cotton is known as the 'cashmere of cotton' and 'white gold' and competes with Egyptian cotton for the title of the 'world's finest cotton'. It is rarer than other fine cotton because it is temperamental to grow and requires much care and expertise from the farmers. It grows in extra-long staple fibers meaning a smooth, soft, and almost silk-like hand that gets better with time.

Make Your Own Cyanotype Bandana
Create a one-of-a-kind bandana using one of the oldest forms of photography-Cyanotype. Also known as sun printing, this process blends chemistry, art, and nature for a satisfyingly hands-on project that is fun for everyone!
The BASIC KIT includes one cotton bandana, two cotton practice swatches, cyanotype chemistry, protective gloves, and glass beads for holding your objects in place.
Add-Ons
The kit comes with enough solution to create additional items, so we have included options to purchase socks and/or silk handkerchiefs for further cyanotype experimentation. Use the drop-down menu to add additional pieces to the basic kit.
Add two SILK HANKIES and we'll include two 100% silk handkerchiefs. Each is 11"x11" square with rolled hem. (+ $7.00)
Add a pair of SOCKS and we'll include a pair of bamboo socks that fit adult size 6-9. These are very soft and squishy and feel great! 94% Bamboo rayon and 6% Spandex. (+ $10.00)
Add both a pair of SOCKS and two SILK HANKIES for an additional $17.00.
FAQs
Q: Is there enough solution to do more items than what comes in the basic kit?
A: Yes, if you are careful and only mix what you need for each use, you'll have a little extra to create 1-3 more small projects. Check out our optional add-ons for items we think make great additional projects!
Q: Can I only do this project on a sunny day?
A: This can be done on a cloudy day too but you should avoid precipitation. It must be done outside because glass windows can sometimes block the UV light that triggers the chemical reaction that turns the molecules blue!
Q: Do I need supplies beyond what comes in the kit?
A: You'll need a flat portable work surface ( a flattened cardboard box works well) and a small non-food-use bowl or container to mix the solution in.
Wear clothes that you can get messy. Gather your own objects for printing- we love collecting leaves outside, everyday objects like pasta, snack foods, and tools.
