PRE-ORDER FEBRUARY 2027 DELIVERY

Part Beach Towel, Part Picnic Blanket.

Approximately 50" x 70"

I first dreamed up these blankets while visiting our handweave partners in Maheshwar, India, a small town on the banks of the mighty and sacred Narmada River. We made a small batch, and I tucked a dozen into my suitcase to bring back to Oregon as gifts. Before long, I noticed them popping up everywhere. Spread out at our local river spots on hot summer days, wrapped around shoulders at outdoor concerts, and picnics in the park. Part blanket, part towel, and always ready for a day outside. After plenty of requests to make more, here they are. Each color is named after a river I love, starting with the Narmada, where the story began.

- 100% Khadi (handspun) Cotton
- Handwoven in Maheshwar, India
- Yarns dyed with AZO-Free Dyes
- Approximately 50" by 70"

Please note: Every blanket comes with a tag that states the artisan handweaver’s name. Due to the hand-made quality, each blanket is unique and may vary slightly from the pictured.

Machine wash cold with like colors. Only use mild detergents. Hang dry.

Please note: After washing, the handspun khadi yarns may become softer and develop a crepe-like texture. This desirable effect is called gudi mudi meaning "scrunched cotton" in the local language of Maheshwar.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

The mission of Karghewale is to empower artisans to build robust businesses that express their distinctive creative vision. Challenging the status quo of the handloom industry, Karghewale rejects the model of weavers as wage workers. Instead, the collective is built on the belief that weavers are equal partners, valued not only for their skill at the loom, but for their agency and entrepreneurial judgment.

Our Light Silk Cowboy scarves are created by weaver and entreprener Alpana Dey in Murshidabad, West Bengal, a region famous for its fine, precise, and lightweight handwovens. Each scarf comes with a tag that features the name of the hand weaver.
